7JS, Northern Ireland. Cuireadh Meitheál Oibre na Leabharlannaithe ar bun tá ceithre bhliain ó shin le seirbhísí leabharlainne trí mhéan na Gaeilge a chur chun tosaigh. De reir daonra 1991 tá 142,000 daoine sna sé chontae a bhfuil Gaeilge acu. I measc na daoine sin, tá dream a bhfuil na seirbhísí ar fáil. Níl Gaeilge ag gach ball den ghrupa ach is amhlaidh atáimid ar fad den tuarim gun choir go mbeadh sé mar ceart ag gach usáidire leabharlainne teacht a bheith aige nó aici ar sheirbhísí trí Gaeilge. Ó tharla nach thabairt dóibh suid a bhfuil fadhbanna acu ó thaobh Ghaeilge de. Cuirfimid fáilte roimh daoine as na sé chontae is fiche bíodh Gaeilge aige nó aici nó nach bíodh. Meitheál Oibre na Leabharlainnthe was set up in 1990 to promote services to the Irish speaking community. Although the 1991 census showed 142,000 people in the six counties with some knowledge of Irish, few facilities are available for those whose first or preferred language is Irish. In addition, many of those charged with providing services have no or little knowledge of the language. Meitheál Oibre na Leabharlainnthe aims to address this problem through its activities, such as the day-long seminar on cataloguing in the Irish language, held in 1993, and its informal network for helping with problems in cataloguing and bibliographic searching. Meitheál Oibre na Leabharlainnthe welcomes members from throughout Ireland. |
