Government Libraries Section

Motion re membership

The following motion was passed at the GLS AGM in May 2005:
"We propose that membership of the Government Libraries Section continue as at present to be open to all members of the Library Association of Ireland but that Committee membership and attendance at regular meetings be restricted to those working in Government or Public Service libraries, with the exclusion of Public Libraries, Health Board Libraries and Educational Libraries."

GLS Motion Passed at the LAI AGM - 10th March 2005

"This AGM calls on the incoming Executive Board to investigate the need for publicly-funded bodies to develop a copyright policy, including ownership of copyright, public access to publicly-funded research and the issue of retention of copyright when licensing publication of research."

In December 2004, the GLS hosted the 2004 joint meeting with the Northern Ireland Government Library Services Group. LAI President Gobnait O'Riordan addressed the two groups on the topic of likely trends in the library world over the next ten years. This was followed by a discussion, lunch and a visit to Farmleigh House and Library.
