The Audio-Visual and Information Technology Section (AVIT) is a special interest group of the Library Association of Ireland. It has been in existence since 1982. It aims to provide its members and others with a forum for discussion and information on topics of interest in the audio-visual and information technology fields.

AVIT is particularly concerned with the development, integration and impact of audio-visual media and emerging technologies within the library and information environment. It has a special responsibility to provide a forum for members interested in the field of information retrieval services following the amalgamation of the On-line Users Groups (OLUG) with AVIT in 1989.

Information is primarily disseminated by means of seminars, workshops, and conferences, organised at a variety of venues in Ireland, a newsletter and occasional publications.

Links are also maintained with other special interest groups of the LAI and national and international groups in order to promote awareness of wider developments and ensure that members' interests are represented.

A Committee is elected annually, including the offices of Chair, vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer.
